Mr. John D. Franchini '92

John D. Franchini is a partner in the New York office of Milbank LLP, the Practice Group Leader for the Global Corporate Group and a member of the firm’s Global Corporate, Private Equity, Power and Energy and Latin American Practice Groups.  Earlier in his career, John was resident in Milbank’s Tokyo office.

John represents corporations, private equity sponsors, hedge funds and their portfolio companies in investment, acquisition, recapitalization, disposition and fund-of-fund transactions.  He also has significant transactional experience involving power generation and transmission assets, traditional infrastructure assets, midstream and downstream natural gas assets, and other power, energy and infrastructure projects. 

John’s most recent representations have been in connection with investments in U.S. wind, solar and geothermal projects, domestic and international gas-fired power plants, toll roads in Latin America, a Canadian airport passenger terminal and a subsea fiber optic cable between the U.S. and Brazil. 

Chambers USA has repeatedly recognized John for his M&A and private equity work and he has also has been named as a leading lawyer in The Legal 500.  He regularly publishes articles and speaks at conferences on M&A and equity investing matters. 

John served as an editor of the Fordham Law Review and was the recipient of the MCI International Law Fellowship through which he conducted a study of privatization in the Czech Republic in conjunction with The World Bank.  He is also a member of the American Bar Association. 

After college, John held internships and positions at the United Nations, World Bank Group and European Union while attending Fordham University School of Law.  John lives in Pelham, New York with his wife Nicole, who is a second grade teacher in Scarsdale, and his two sons Nicolas (18 years old) and Christopher (16 years old).  John is active in various house building groups, including Appalachia Service Project and Habitat for Humanity.
