Anthropology and Sociology are distinct fields in the social sciences, united by a common interest in understanding human beings, their communities and societies.

Anthropology

Anthropology focuses on the cultural aspects
of human societies and their evolution over time. Anthropologists, including
archeologists, study the world's
peoples and their material and
non-material cultures, within
comparative and historical
frameworks. Research and
teaching focus on diverse
areas of social and cultural
life such as rituals, livelihood
strategies,international
development, health and illness,
gender, and environmental
influences on behavior.

Sociology

Sociology focuses on the social forces that influence behavior. Sociologists, including social psychologists, investigate the
structure of groups and societies,
how people interact within these
contexts, and the role of race,
gender and social class in
society. Areas of research
and teaching cover a broad
range from the intimate
family to popular culture
to social institutions such
as education,law, and health,
to international social movements
and social change.
