Islam, Islamism and Post-Islamism in Africa
The Center for Global Islamic Studies presents "Islam, Islamism and Post-Islamism in Africa, a lecture focusing on the interface of Islam and politics in Africa by Professor Benjamin Soares on Tuesday, December 1, 4:15 pm, in Linderman Library, Room 200.
Professor Benjamin Soares, an anthropologist, is Senior Research Fellow at the African Studies Centre in Leiden, The Netherlands. He has recently been a visiting professor at the University of Cape Town and at Northwestern University. His publications include Islam and the Prayer Economy (2005) and the co-edited volumes, Islam and Muslim Politics in Africa (2007), Islam, État et société en Afrique (2009), and Islam, Politics, Anthropology, a special issue of the Journal of the Royal Anthropological Institute (2009).
