&lt;p&gt;Professor
Benjamin Soares, an anthropologist, is Senior Research Fellow at the African Studies
Centre in Leiden, The Netherlands.&lt;span style=""&gt;&amp;nbsp; &lt;/span&gt;He
has recently been a visiting professor at the University of Cape Town and at
Northwestern University.&lt;span style=""&gt;&amp;nbsp; &lt;/span&gt;His
publications include &lt;em style=""&gt;Islam and the Prayer
Economy &lt;/em&gt;(2005) and the co-edited volumes, &lt;em style=""&gt;Islam and Muslim Politics in Africa &lt;/em&gt;(2007), &lt;em style=""&gt;Islam, État et société en Afrique &lt;/em&gt;(2009), and &lt;em style=""&gt;Islam, Politics, Anthropology&lt;/em&gt;, a special issue of the &lt;em style=""&gt;Journal of the Royal Anthropological
Institute &lt;/em&gt;(2009).&lt;/p&gt;
